Q: Should you buy a used Audi A4 for your teenager?
There are so many Audi A4's on craigslist that go for some outstanding prices, 1998, AWD, Quattro, 4 cyl turbo, 1.8l, 105k miles. For $8000. How is the reliability of Audi's? Anything I should know?

A: Thats a lot of miles!! I think u should get an Audi A4 2001 with less miles and less than 10 grand!!!!! if u look good on the internet u will find some great audis and they dont break that fast!!! I lov German cars!!!!

So I'm looking into buying a used Audi a4 perferably the new body style 2002 and up or a C230 Kompressor the body style before this years. Anyone have any suggestions?

Q: How come a used 2000 Audi A4 is cheaper than a used 2000 Subaru outback w/the same features and miles?
I am looking for a quality used car, and they are both the same price? What is wrong with the Audi, its not just one this cheap they all are. Are they expensive to maintain? insure?

A: The Subaru is a more popular car than the Audi, and because of the demand, it has a higher resale value!

Q: WHICH USED CAR- AUDI A4 or ACURA INTEGRA?
Earlier I was thinking of buying Acura Integra, but now I am also considering Audi A4. Is it a good idea to buy a used Audi A4 with 75000 miles or so on it? Does the repair/maintenance cost more than Lexus? Overall, which one's a smart choice to go with? Thanks to everyone who left their suggestions

A: Between my father and myself we own around 80 vw and audi's which are the same family. An Audi A4 is the same as a Jetta and built with the same parts. When you buy an A4 your paying for the style of vehicle. The german vehicles are very reliable and excellent cars as long as you change the oil frequently when you drive in the city. I recommend putting in synthetic 15w-30 or a 15w-40 diesel oil. Buy the good oil filters as well from vw or audi.As far as service goes they will last a very long time. Keeping high octane gas in the car will help. Im from canada and they can handle the extremest conditions that we can offer up here. Audi/vw's also keep there value very well and are often excellent student/commuter vehicles in the end of the life. Parts are always easy to find if you do need them. And lots of jobber parts are easy to find so you dont have to replace them with the expensive german bosch ones. Have fun and check out www.vwvortexforums.com and they can help out with any other questions!!

Q: Used audi recommendation, A4 or A6?
I am plaining to buy a used A4 or A6, my budget is around 10g to 15g, can any Audi owner share with the experience that which model is better and reliable?

A: If I absolutely had to choose between these two vehicles go with the A4- simply, less costly to own and operate. If you go with the A4 make certain it is the V6 and not the turbo 1.8 or 2.0- horrid reliability. The V6 is better in reliability but well at the bottom of reliability when it comes to other makes such as Toyota, Lincoln, Cadillac, Lexus and Infiniti. My advice is compare all vehicles in the long term reliability study first and then make your decision. Do not base you decision on biased opinions.

Q: Shoulf I buy a used Audi A4 1.8T, 96K/miles?
I have been speaking with a private person who is selling their 2000 Audi A4 1.8T. They say the left control arm links needs to be replaced and thats all. Would this create problems in different areas of the car. he is offering it for $6,500 but I may be able to negotiate him down. Is this worth the purchase and am I gonna have a lot of problems with this car if I buy it. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

A: Sounds like alot of money for an Audi. That car is almost 8 years old now and will probably start to have more problems. You may end up spending that $6500 in repairs over the next 55K miles. I would ask the seller to repair the control arm and any other problems before even making an offer. If he fixes everything then an offer of $5800 or so would be good. Definitely have a mechanic check the car over before buying, a transmission replacement could crush you.

Q: I want to buy a used audi a4 4cy car . Is this a good idea?

A: That depends on the year. A 2006 and newer maybe good for another year or two before any major problems start to occur, according to the consumer affairs complaint website. On the average, owners report serious problems relating to turbo failure at 70-80k miles and require complete rebuilds which are very costly. Some owners have reported complete engine failure with the 1.8 and 2.0 litre 4 cylinder turbo models; again problems mostly stemming from the turbos and the high-pressure fuel injection system. Thus, the poor reliability equates to poor resale value. If you were a friend of mine, I would highly recommend avoiding a used Audi for several reasons- they are expensive to maintain, have poor reliability records, poor depreciation (ave 3 year book value less than 1/2 of value) and there are many better values on the market. For example, a Subaru Legacy will out run the A4 1.8 and 2.0 and offers very similar driving dynamics, all wheel drive and better reliability and fuel mileage.

Q: I just bought a used audi a4 1.8. What kind of gas should I be using?

A: Audis use 91 octane, but you can run lower if you so choose. Youll just have lower performance and gas mileage.

Q: can somebody find me a website on a used audi a4 that's below 5,ooo?
pleeeasssee

A: are you in UK or US

Q: What do I look for when buying a used Audi?
Im looking into buying a used car down the street from me. It's a used 1997 Audi A4 Quattro AWD It has 123,000 miles on it, but it looks really good. The gentlemen said that he had replaced the -front control arm -timing belt - and wheel bearings all around 90,000 miles. I really don't know that much about that kind of stuff. I don't know what is commonly problematic with this type of car, so any insight would be helpful.

A: make sure you can get the papers for the maitenence on it. check out some audi forums and read about common problems of them.. timing belts are a common issue, so is sludge( engine). i think that there are more things that need to be done at 100000 miles then the front control arm, timing belt and wheel bearings. i can think of water pump, coolant change off the top of my head. you could probally find some more on forums. make sure you can afford maitenence and repairs. german cars can get expensive, but they can last a long time if they are taken good care of. I have a 99 passat, which is very similar to the A4's.

Q: I recently bought a used 2004 Audi A4. I was using regular gas because I didn't know. Did I damage the car?
On the inside of the gas tank door, I noticed it said "premium" or "plus"... I didn't realize this until the third time I was filling up. Does this mean that I damaged the car in any way? My tank is now half full with regular. Should I fill it up with premium?

A: Read your owners manual...it will give you a number rating (87 or 89 or 93 etc.) of the recommended gasoline...What is considered premium gasoline in the USA is of a MUCH higher quality than gasoline in Europe. I had an Audi 90 and drove it forever on regular gasoline with a little bit of ethanol content to it. Apparently the Premium gasoline is mentioned on those Audi vehicles which have a turbo charged engines. A site I visited recently said that Audi "recommends" premium fuel...Recommending and REQUIRING are two completely different things. They apparently have had owners complain of knocking when running regular gas. If you don't have a turbo, I wouldn't think you had anything to worry about. My current Volvo recommends 87 octane gasoline, which in the US is regular unleaded.
