Q: I am considering buying a used audi a6 with 70k miles which is the most reliable engine choice?
1.8t 2.7t or 2.8 I'm going to make this a daily driver. Also what type of maintence should I expect
A: Go with the 2.8 A6 Quattro it's what I drive.
I never had any maintenance problems with it besides replacing tires and brakes, Trust me go for the 2.8 it's smooth.
Q: Buying Used Audi A6, Things to Watch Out For ?
i am now in the market for a used Audi A6. need some help chosign an engine, 3.0 2.7t and gas mileage. and anything to look out for ?
A: Check on the timing belt and make sure it is done if it has over 90,000 miles and check the front suspension they ALL squek but I had my 99 a6 until I got in an accident at 157,000 and loved it, now I am getting the A$ and both engines are great. Don't get the 2.8 it is a real dog. Good Luck!
Q: What should i look for when buying a used Audi A6 (2001) 1.9 TDI?
I've seen one, it was blowing some black smoke when started from cold at high revs but then dissapeared after 5 mins test drive, is this normal for a diesel?
A: A good mechanic becuase they are very unreliable and expensive and difficult to repair.
Q: Should I buy a used 2003 Audi A6 Turbo with 92475 miles on it?
A: Call napa or someone first to see how much a resealed turbo will cost
ask to talk with a service rep at your closest audi dealer ...ask the same question ..they will tell you the soft spots of the car ...easy !
Q: My wife wants me to buy an Audi a6 but i could afford a used 911?
I need a new car and looked at an a6 which in my spec comes to about £35000 but my local porsche dealer has a lovely used 911 carrera for a similar price. which should i get, and how do i convince her that a 911 is practical - the kids can go in her car....
my wife has a land rover discovery - which is more than big enough
A: Ditch the wife, buy the Porsche!!
Q: Looking to buy a used car. What are some problems with 1999-2001 Audi A6??
Hi, I'm thinking about buying a used car, and 1999-2001 Audi A6 is what I have in mind. I don't know much about Europe cars, and I just ask if there is any problems with a 1999-2001 Audi A6. The mileage is around 80,000-120,000.
A: These cars have a TON of problems. Given their age and mileage, and your inexperience....RUN! If you were to buy one new ok.....might be a good experience for you, but picking up one at this stage will introduce you to the real Audi. The Audi that develops new electrical gremlins everyday, the sunroofs that leak, the A/C without an accessible low pressure port, the ridiculous amount of sensors and modules used for very simple tasks, the price of every single part, the poor quality metal used in the fuel and brake lines, the way that spring clips break when trim panels are removed to gain access, the (5 at least) different wattages of bulbs used in the instrument cluster and HVAC displays ....I could go on and on. Just for fun, call and get prices for something simple like upper and lower radiator and heater hoses. Then try and find them in the aftermarket. There is no reason in the world to have one of these vehicles, and if you think I'm bitter and don't believe me, then go ahead and take the plunge. You'll be converted soon enough. Oh, and for that little bit of icing on the cake....go try and get any specific info out of the dealer. Of the 3 dealers local to me, the experience is the same, no other brand has ever been so difficult to work with. Absolute CARbage.
Q: question about gas mileage of audi a6?
i recently purchased (5 mths ago) a used 2006 audi a6 3.2. the first time i filled gas i got 580 kms on that tank but now i only get between 500-510kms on a full tank. the ac settings are the exact same. what could it be and how can i get those extra kms back.
A: Drive more slowly.Unload any excess weight you may have in the boot.
Q: Type of oil to use on 1999 Audi A6 Quattro?
I have a 1999 A6 Quattro. I'm missing one of the manuals and cannot find which type of oil to use. The local shop says you don't have to use Synthetic, but I'm not sure I want to risk it. Thanks in advance.
A: The manual calls for Castrol Syntec 5w-30. Its not that easy to find, so just about any decent 5w-30 will work. I use mobile 1 in mine.
As for the shop saying you don't need synthetic, they don't know what they are talking about and you shouldn't go back there. You need synthetic in an Audi
Q: 2005 Audi A6 (please atleast read)?
Can Audi owners give me some pointers as I want to purchase a pre-owned certified used 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro version? I'm not looking to race, 'fix up', show off. Just a weekend car that is fun to drive and luxury wise. I know they are pretty expensive that is why I want a used model, I've heard they are unreliable but you can't always beleive everything you hear. I have a friend who has an older model and he hardly has any problems with it, get's in and drive.
So any tips to not get screwed at a dealer for a used Audi A6 3.2 Quattro?
All advice is greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: Also is insurance expensive if so, how much is it a month?
Parts, repairs, All information please.
Thank you!!!!!!!
A: I own a 2001 A6-4.2, 58K miles in the snow belt. I cannot sing the praises of quattro any louder than I already am. The best AWD package ever engineered and offered to the public. I average $3,000 a year to maintain. This year I had to get 4 new tires ($900) and had the rear pads and rotors replaced ($1,700). I will go in for an oil change soon ($80).
You want to carefully inspect the ball joints, tie-rods and suspension. Very expensive replacement parts but absolutely critical to maintaining your high-end performance.
Q: Audi A6 3.2 Quattro vs. BMW 525, Important Question?
Hi,
I'm maybe considering looking to purchase a used Audi A6 3.2 Quattro or BMW 525. What I want to know is which one is a more reliable car in the long run? Lower to maintain, lower cost to repair, least problems. You know all those important things like that. Least to insure, all those little details. Lower part cost/easier parts to find etc? Also I'm looking for personal expriences or known people who own either one of them in the past. I'm in no rush to purchase one right now, but I do appreciate your advice and information. I'm not looking to race or act superior to the rest. I just want a car for my personal use that is all. I'm not going to add any modifications like everyone else, keep it the way it is.
Thanks in advance.
- Alex
I want a used model of either brand depending on information. Looking to purchase atleast '05.
A: the A6 is more reliable than the BMW in the last few years Audi has surpassed BMW in reliability (check consumer reports) the 2005 and 2006 A6 is rated better than the 5 series. A for maintenance they are probably pretty comparable i have an Audi and it can be pricey to use the dealer for repairs but not bad if you use independent mechanic once the warranty is up.
Q: what type of spark plugs should i use for my 1998 audi a6 2.8 quattro?
i just bought the car and cant really tell if it needs a tune up or not i mean how can i tell? should i get bosch platinum +4 plugs or ngk? bwd wires, ngk,or bosch?
A: Bosch Platinum +4 plugs and Bosch wires are gonna be best.
Q: 2001 Audi A6 2.7T quattro?
Im going to college next fall and im looking for a cheap reliable cars to buy.(under 15000) And it has to be cheap to keep up. I found a used 2001 Audi A6 2.7T quattro with 60000 miles and it costed 14000 dollars. Is that good or bad?
A: It's bad, very bad. Why?
1) it's a used car which is almost 7 years old.
2) for 7 y.o. car this car has a lot of miles on it. Be ready to start fixing your baby.
3) I wouldn't pay more than 10 grand for it
4) it's german car, germans are very expensive to fix
5) it's quattro, which means 4-wheel drive. so it's even more expensive to fix than a basic version
6) 2.7T - the engine is big (it's 2.7 liters), besides that "T" I'm pretty sure means "Turbo" which means fast which means this car will be hungry for gas.
Audi are very good cars though. But if you don't wanna open hood very often and visit bodyshops, if you don't want to spend a lot of money on gas, don't buy it. And it's too expensive, too. Wait till November, it's the best time to buy a car cuz all dealerships try to get rid of car from last year and they bring prices down and can give you better deal because they desperately need to sell something. For $15000 you can get Honda Civic, i'd say 2006. it's safe, good-looking, almost new, still on factory warranty (what is very importnant cuz any problems - they fix it for free) and it saves so much money on gas. You'll be surprised. It's top-rated car in it's class. You can also get new Subaru Forenza which is "Ok" car or new Nissan Sentra, but Honda is better. Buy any car magazine and compare prices, + and -. if you find a car you like, but you think it costs too much, go online (ebay, carseller.com), find the same car in different area, even other state, but cheaper. Print out the info about it, go to dealership, find something you don't like in the car you picked and show the the printout about another car. tell them: I like that car better and it's cheaper and they are ready to give me better deal. I don't think I wanna buy your car anymore. You'll be surprised, but they will drop couple thousands off to make you buy their car. Good luck.
Q: Service! Message on 2004 Audi A6?
I just got a used 2004 Audi A6 with about 59200 miles on it. Today, when I turn the car on, the "SERVICE!" message came on (then went off in 5 seconds). I'm assuming that it needs an Oil Change (I don't have the manual yet) right away. Can any of the other Audi owners out there confirm that for me or is this a sign of something more sinister (hope not)?
Thanks in advance!!
A: It's probably nothing I'd take it to the dealer.
Q: what kind of oil should i use in my 1998 audi a6 2.8 quattro?
its at 100,000miles and i just bought this car and i dont know if the previous owner used synthetic or not so mobile suggests i use mobile 1 0W-40 will this be ok in the summer time and winter? im in chicago and summer is almost here what do u guys think?
A: 5/30 is but 10/30 will work. Mobil 1 is always a plus. Make sure what ever you use it meets VW/Audi standards for 1998. API-SJ, API-SL, API-SM
Q: How would I accquire an Audi A6 2.7T Quattro Navigation CD?
I purchased a used 2000 Audi A6 2.7T Quattro a couple months back and I did not receive the navigation CD required to use the built-in navigation system. Other than going back to the dealer, who I would doubt have it, and even if they did it's a very long drive, how would I come about one of these CDs? I obviously would like an updated one that isn't from the year 2000. And about what would the price for one of these CDs be? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Since that's very expensive, would it maybe be more beneficial just to buy a center console with a screen and everything whose GPS is solely one of many features?
A: Any Audi dealer can get you the cd. The newer cars load off of 1-2 dvd's and a set and could be $200-$400/set. The older vehicles with cd systems could use as many as 10 cd's. They were regionalized and a full set could be as much as $1,000-$2,000 on a Mercedes as an example. You might also try E-bay, but make sure you get the right ones!
