Q: what is the best way to make my Audi A8 look new again?
I have an Audi A8 2002 and I was about to sell it, but I love my car and I think I can keep it for many more years. Is there a way I can "modernize" it? Who sells kits to make it look a newer model?

A: I think you made a good decision, that is a very fine car and you can keep it for a long time and it will serve you well.
As for the people who make it look new again, look up the people from Hofele in Germany. They adapt new spoilers to make the Audis look like the new line. I think they look very good. They have representatives in Canada so you don't have to fly over.

I am considering a BMW 750il as my first choice but now after yahoo answers I made arrangements to look at a Lexus LS460 and a Cadillac Escalade this week but someone also said Audi A8. Will it last a long time? Thats my main question. I know its a big car but should I spend some time looking at i and test drinvg it?
A: Unfortunately Audi, as all European manufacturers, have had many recent reliability problems stemming mostly from electrical matters.
No doubt about it- the A8 is a beautiful car and drives very nice. It offers much room and a high class, high quality interior. It performs excellent in winter driving and is sporty in the summer. In theory a great car. However, it has many downsides. The first being resale value which is well below average- 43% loss in the first year. It is horrible on gas mileage as well- 14city/19highway. It is very expensive to own and maintain. Insurance is also very high as parts cost above average. And reliability-who wants to see their new car in the repair shop more than in their driveway? Read the consumer reviews, especially long term reviews. The logs are filled with horror stories just in time for Halloween.
I would test drive it just so that later when you buy something else you will not wonder what it was like to drive that model.
Q: What air filter would you recommend for Audi A8. What I read was that K&L is not teh way to go.?

A: definitely do NOT us a K&L on any modern car. The oil can get into the MAF (mass air flow) sensor and ruin it.
Use the audi filter. You will not improve power by changing filters. You can put on one of those cold air things that pipe in cold air from outside the engine compartment, and get maybe 1% increase in power, or maybe no increase.
Why do you want to increase power? With modern engines there is not much you can do. Perhaps you can find one of those high performance ROMs for the computer that will get a a small increase, but at the expense of pollution and reliability.
Q: How reliable would a 1998 Audi A8 be?
Im 15 and I just want a cool car and for kicks I started looking at old Audis and I can get a 1998 Audi A8 now for like $5 Grand and come late Feburary when I turn 16 I could probably get one for $4 Grand. Would you do the same or should I just go with my original plan and get a newer jeep?

german cars also have the highest insurance rates. and especially for a person your age, you shouldn't mess with any audi until you're older. even if its a 98, audi's aren't something you should tinker with.

A: the A8 LWB is the long wheel base (about 5 inches longer and gize 7 cubic feet of extra passenger room ) it is longer than the regular A8 its more luxurious and less sporty the regular A8 and S8 use the shorter wheel base which is a little more sporty.

A: There is no difference between the model years on both the A6 and the A8. Both are from the most recent facelift.

I want to replace the rear speakers and im away from home right now, but want to order them on-line.
All i need to know is the speaker mounting dimensions so that i can drop the new ones straight in the original place.
I know theyre approximately 170 mm but really need to know for sure.

A: I’m sorry but you would need to be slightly more descriptive. Also you’re probably much better off posting this question on an A8 forum.
You would need to specify which model, year, etc. The light clusters might be different from one model to another.
Alternatively, the quickest and easiest way is to take it to Halfords (if you’re in the UK). You can buy the bulb and they’ll fit it for free or a very small charge.
Q: Where is the TCM and TRS located on a 97 audi a8 quattro?
TCM being the transmission control module and TRS being the transmission range sensor? Thanks.
A: you can get this question answered on Audi world forums i have a 97 A6 and the TCM is located on the top front of the tranny itself. and they can be prone to getting wet and failing if the rubber seals go bad but im not sure on the A8

A: I work for Norwich Union, and the site in question relates to our "Pay-as-you-drive" system.. "Why do we exclude the Audi A8?.. Well quite simply, it's the only car that we cannot get the device to work in at present. We are looking for a solution though

my right wheel makes noise when i turn it, or go over the bump or just simply press on the hood so if u know what the problem is please help? second issue, is my rear right brake, i have brake fluid liking, its from the brake line though i checked it... so i was wondering what needs to be done to fix that problem??

A: The real question is, and you've partially answered it, what's more important to you as the driver: reliability/dependability vs. performance, style and looks. Unfortunately, you can't get both qualities in one manufacturer.
Consumer reports will say it all. Mercedes, Volvo, BMW's and most European cars have dropped significantly in reliability and dependabilty over the past decade while the Japanese (Acura, Lexus & Infiniti) have surfaced as the most reliable rides on the market. The A8, if memory serves me, is a phenomenal drive; however, and this is a huge however to those of us that like cars, European cars as a whole have consistently (over the past 10-12 years now) received extremely low marks on dependability and the repair record is among the industry's worst. Thier repair records are equal those of the Yugos from 15 years ago! But, for the best answers, look it up on either JD Powers, Edmunds or Consumer Reports, where you'll get feedback from >10,000 owners of these cars as opposed to the opinions of 5-10 car addicts here..
For me, if my car has a special home in the repair shop, if the mechanics have given it a name like Sophia or Molly, and they all have a personal relationship with me and my car... and if the neighbors always see me driving that cool Ford Fusion rental/loner from the shop, then I own (or it owns me) the wrong car- PERIOD!
