Q: How to start a proper maintenance cycle for a car?
My husband just bought a 2003 Audi A8. The car is in mint condition, has only 30000 miles. Still I would like to know, what is standard procedure to receive a car like this, what are the routine changes and check ups to be made, what fluids have to be changed.... I will be delighted to receive any input, this is a beautiful car and we want to keep it as a classic for many more years. thxs for the advice

A: Coolant and cooling system. with the engine cold, remove the radiator cap, start the engine. Do you see or smell anything in the radiator? No way of telling for sure when the coolant was changed last, change it. Check condition of battery, alternator & belts. Check tires for signs of uneven wear, tread & any other possible damage. Transmission fluid for color, unuseal smells. oil level and condition, does it look dark, smell bad? if yes may need oil & filter. Hoses, when the engine has been running for a while and is at operating temp. do they feel overly soft or looked cracked? may need change (hoses crack on the inside also). If eather dipstick (Transmission or Engine) looks stained or discolored it may be signs of abuse. You might also want to check the front & rear brake condition, color and condition of the brake fluid. Michine wax every 2 to 3 weeks, I feel Turtle Wax Liquid is Best. NOTE; If this car came from the Audi Dealer they might have already done most of this os just get a list of what they have already done (for your maintance records) and keep the above in mind as thing you need to do every month, 4,6 & 12 months to maintain a good running car.

Q: I have a Audi A6 Quattro 4.2 Will a mass air flow sensor fit from a previous year or the A8 quattro 4.2?
I was looking on cars-stuff website and autopartswarehouse website and they both have this part W0133-1608107 mass air flow sensor to fit a 2000 A6 quattro 4.2 and the A8 quattro 4.2 from 2000 to 2003. But it doesnt say anything about fitting my car the 2001 A6 quattro 4.2. Do you think that would fit. When I call those website they act stupid so i need a expert opinion.

A: Audi tends to use one part for several cars, i.e. the 1.8t engine is used it the TT and the A4. You already looked up that the part numbers are the same, so it will fit. Your style of car (C5) went from '98 to '04 so most parts from those years should fit given that it has the same package.
