Q: Any tips on replacing rear brake pads for 2001 audi s4?
I just did my front brake pads for my 2001 Audi S4. I haven't looked at the rear pads yet -- is there anything I need to know, or is it similar to the front ones?
A: You might need a special piston tool. Some cars have to have their rear calipur piston rotated as they are pressed back into the cylinder. Not rotating them can cause damage. Auto Zone sells a 12 piece disc brake calipur tool set that fits almost any brake system for about $30.
Q: What are the miles per gallon of a 2000 Audi S4 with the Stage 3 system?
I own a 2000 Audi S4. I plan on putting a Stage 3 system. I have no idea how much will my miles per gallon drop after I have this system put in. Stock it is supposed to give 20 city and 23 to 25 mpg highway. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
A: I happen to own a stock 2000 S4 as well, and yes, the car averages 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Considering a stage III B5 S4 is capable of producing roughly 450HP and 470 ft/lbs torque, I would estimate that it would average around 15 mpg average, considering you have some fun with it.
Here's a similar S4 with 450HP that gets 26 mpg!

Q: Should i get an audi s4 in Stick or Automatc?
I live in Los Angeles, and usually every day there is traffic. I want to buy an Audi S4 but im not sure if i should get Automatic or Stick. I want to have fun in the car, i want to enjoy it, and i know at night i will be able to do what i wanna do because there will be no traffic. But during the day its horable. What do i do? Alot of people say get stick youll have more fun, but is that really true? What if i need to pick up a cell phone, or im eating something, or im playing really loud music so i cant hear the engine? I need some good advice.
A: automatics are for old men, get a stick its lots more fun to drive, its faster, more economical, bigger gear range 5 or 6 gears compared to the 4 gears in autos and maintenance is also cheaper no Tran fluid changes and gearboxes hardly ever go wrong even tho about every 100k you need to change the clutch depending on how you drive, more control over the car e.g. you can use engine breaking.
in answer to eating while driving or using the phone you can normally do it fine just get a hands free and put the food in ur mouth before you change gear, youl know when to change gear coz ul feel the vibrations or if you cant do that theres a meter.
during the day its fine you just have to get used to it.
Good luck
Q: What kalvin do I need for an HID kit on my Audi S4?
I have a 2005 Audi S4 conv. and one of the HID bulbs has burned out....... I dont want to buy a new kit from the dealership because it will cost me an arm and a leg..... what temperature kit do I need to match the other side?
A: As a fellow S4 owner I think I can add my two cents...the greater the kelvin rating, the bluer the light (up to purple)...usually the stock (average) kelvin rating for an HID is anywhere from 2000-5000k. Anything over 6k is unnecessary
You can go higher but Id expect that problems would arise..
Also, if you only need a bulb or two, find the Phillips Colormatch bulbs
Q: Is there an alternative car to an Audi S4 that I should consider?
I'm considering buying a sub-£25000 Audi S4... I really want a Nissan Skyline GTR34, but my wife and my job make it impractical. Used to have a '97 Porsche 911, but now I need something more sensible and everyday, with similar power.
It has to be a 4 seat car for commuting in to town... Lots of power, but a car that has a sensible image for first impressions. Was considering a BMW 6 series, but at the end of the day, I will need to be let out of junctions in London...
Any suggestions?
A: For the price there is nothing like an S4. Depending on the year you can either get the twin turbo V-6 with about 236 BHPor the 350 BHP V-8. The all weel drive and the four door make this a little different. The M3 could be and option from BMW but you only get 2 doors. You could go with an Evo or an STI but those two arnt to economical. So, no, i dont think you have a different choice for the price.
Q: Improving gas mileage on an audi s4?
I just bought a 2005 audi s4 v8 because it to good of a deal to pass up on and its in mint condition. My question is other than driving like im 90 yrs old and routine check ups how can i improve my gas mileage on my car. It gets aroung 16miles city and 21 highway. Any answers would be appreciated.
A: Trade it in for the 4cylinder. 16 and 21 mpg is at the top end of great for the 4.2l.
Q: what are some of the problems a 2002 Audi S4 have?
I have herd that after 100,000 miles the car starts to break apart. If this is so can you please tell me what they are and if its even worth buying the Audi S4 V-6 biturbo, or is there a better sporty sedan that would keep up with the S4 and still look as nice for 13,000 USD. thanks your help is most appreciated
A: an audi s4 would be nice, but preferably with under 100k miles. its already expensive to maintain. u could always go for a a6, they usually same price and have a bigger engine. the bad thing with buying a used s4 is that u know someone bought it for being an S4, with that in mind its almost 100% that it was raced or pushed harder than another adult driven vehicle. going from what u have I see u like something quick and nimble, unique, and luxury. unfortunately not much in that falls into all those categories. I would recommend a 2001-2003 lexus is300, its a small sedan, luxury, a bit more reliable, and many tuner parts or small upgrades are available to make it quicker(it already handles well) i wouldn't say its better than the s4, but more long term. hope this helps
Q: I have an 2001 Audi S4, at what time and how expensive is the timing belt need to be replaced?
2001 Audi S4 Twin Turbo V6 2.7L 91k miles
A: This is a major issue with the s-4. I paid about $1500 at the dealership. Don’t go cheap. They need to replace the water pump (to help keep your intercoolers cooled) and they change the alternator while it is apart. They had the car for a whole day. I also had some other stuff done at the same time. Have them check your motor mounts (they have to take them apart anyhow) and see if there is anything else they can do while you have paid them to pull apart your engine.
Just a piece of advice… Call a couple days ahead, and ask for a sales person, see if you can schedule an all day test drive of the new s-4 or RS4,
Q: I have a 2002 Audi S4. How much damage does it do to it when I try to launch it?
Is it possible to launch a Tiptronic S4?
A: It's not very good for it. I guess by launch you mean you hold the brake and build up the revs? It's bad for the brakes and transmission. If you do it too much it WILL break the transmission, and that's expensive to fix. You really only do this in a manual car.
Hope this helps!
Q: How come the 1999 mustang gt does 0-60 and 1/4 mile just as fast as a '01 audi s4?
Isn't the audi supposed to be faster since it's so much more expensive?
A: European cars in general are not geared for fast 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. They are engineered to hold triple digit speeds at a constant rate without a hitch. Take that crappy Mustang for a long drive on the Autobahn and see what happens. I would bet that after an hour of constant speeds in the 135 mph range the GT's engine would seize. It doesn't matter what the price is, its the engineering.
Q: Whats the difference between the audi s4 and rs?
Is it just the same exterior and different engines?
A: The RS is the more modified version of the S4's engine, it has MANY differences but heres some:
The 2007 S4 has a 340 HP, 4.2 L FSI V8 Engine
(0-60 in 5.2 seconds)
Top speed is at 155 (I've gone to 160 in my S4)
The 2007 RS4 has a 420 HP, 4.2L FSI V8 Engine
(0-60 in 4.8 seconds)
Top speed is at 186.
Think of the A4 as a base version, the S4 is a more sports tuned suspension, while the RS4 is the ultimate version of a sports luxury car.
While all of these cars share the same suspension, it's tuned very differently. The RS4 incorporates the S4 engine but tunes it even more aggressively. It also shares traits with its cousin the Lamborghini Gallardo (steering, wheels, interior).
In terms of aerodynamics and lines, you WILL notice a difference in the fenders and especially the grills if you park a S4 by a RS4
Oh yeah, the RS4 also costs 10k more
Hope this helps.
Q: How much horse power does an Audi S4 have?
What can I do to make this horse power even larger and what would the horsepower be then.
A: http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2002-to-2007-audi-a4-4.htm
this will link you to a site providing a chart which tells HP for each size engine in that model. As for getting more HP: turbo, cold air intake, better ignition system, new cams and valves, better exhuast system, better fuel delivery, and probably the best(I know others will argue) is to "chip the engine" get an aftermarket PCM reprogrammer or add-on for around $300and up..
Q: How do you know your turbos are failing in a 2001 Audi S4?
Okay so I got an RS4 clutch, new chip, miltek exhaust, new diverter valves, ghb blow off valves, and cold air intake. Everytime I gun it and it gets into higher revs it makes this reaaally annoying screeching noise like a dentists drill or something. I also noticed it makes the noise at higher revs when the gas tank is full. Anyone have any idea whats up?
Its been running well (74k miles), sometimes i just feel like i'm not getting the power I had expected.
My pops has an RS6 actually, it does rule quite hard but I love my s4 and I just want to cure its ailments.
A: thats about where the B5's turbos start to go out (that mileage), and it does sound like the turbo issue, but Vwvortex.com would be the place to ask. theyll know for sure.
and man youre lucky, the RS6's are seriously bad machined. a friends uncle had a 650 hp one. such a monster/sleeper. His was the avant also :)
for willis C:
Turbos CAN be very reliable. The B5 S4s came stock with a twin turbo setup that just happened to have the actual turbocharger be pretty unreliable. None of his mods are all that odd at all.
And MANY MANY MANY manufacturers ARE going to turbos in everyday cars. all modern diesels , all of subarus, many audis and VWs, some porsches, some BMWs and mercedes, the SRT4 neon, and zillions of other cars are all turbocharged from the factory now.
and under your logic, why would we eat tasty foods? THey dont nourish us better than bland, inexpensive foods. Theyll just make you fat. Why not drive a 1985 volvo 240 DL? Why have any car with over 60 hp? why buy cool looking furniture when you can buy used, cheap stuff for less, and it does the same job?
and there arent rules against how quick youre allowed to get to the speed limit. And there are places called race tracks where you can drive well over any posted speed limit. And dont even try to tell me you have never broken the speed limit in your life.
Stop being an idiot.
Q: How much does it cost to replace the clutch on an 05 Audi S4?
I know audis are expensive to fix in general and i dont need to replace it yet but i was just curious to how much it would be to replace the clutch on my car. The dealership told me it would be about 2000. Is that roughly what it will cost no matter if i go to another auto shop.
A: I have an '05 A4 and from what I've heard from other people with Audi's, it'll probably run you somewhere around $1,500 to $2,000. Not cheap for a well-engineered German dream machine. You do get what you pay for however, and if you take care of the new clutch, it should last you a while. Best of luck!
Q: How much would it cost to repair a damaged Audi S4 (1999)?
It needs 2 new intercoolers, set of headlights, front bumper + some bodywork. Are the repairs something that an amateur - with a proper manual and/or guidance - could do?
Forgot to add: it's a UK car.
A: My son is an Audi technician and he tells me constantly about how much more damage people do to Audi's that try to repair them that don't know what they are doing so I would say to take it to a professional Audi technician to save money in the long run. Remember these wise words!
