Q: What does the 2001 Audi TT gauges look like when you turn on the headlights?
Will turning on the headlights make the gauges amber? or will it have a Optitron like color to it?

A: The needle and digits glow red like all Audi's.

Q: Which car is faster and has more potential to become faster? 1991 300zx TT or 2001 Audi TT?
I want to buy either a 300zx TT or Audi TT and make it high performance car. I want very quick acceleration, i'd like your thoughts on what car i should buy and what up grades would be great for a faster car, Thank you

A: 1991 300zx is faster and has more potential......The audi is a 1.8 t vw engine with awd and isn't any faster than a turbo jetta---The age of the car might sway you to the newer TT tho

Q: I was wondering if anyone knew of a Child Car seat that will fit in the back seat of an 2001 Audi TT?
My son is 14 months old, and we are trying to find a carseat for my husbands car.

A: Try this site, it is very helpful. http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/choosing/buying.htm And this one as well. http://www.britax.co.uk/index.php?option=com_fitfinder&home=1&Itemid=62

Q: i have a 2001 Audi TT 225, and the headlamp aim is too high?
I cant see any adjustment on the headlamps to lower the beam setting, and ive been told it has an automatic load lowering system built into it. Any ideas?

A: I have an s3 (same set up as the tt) and it has an automatic headlight range control motor and leveling sensors round the car. It could be more or less any one of these that is causing the problem so I would suggest getting it checked by Audi. I know that might be a sore point but sensors being what they are it will be difficult to find out which one it is on your own. Range control motor is below the rear seat on thett coupe and on the roadster it is behind the rear right back panel side trim. Hope this helps if you want to have a go yourself

Q: I need someone to explain to me how to program my radio after the batter went dead. 2001 Audi TT.?
I was deployed and came home to a dead battery. I have the code I need to put in, just dont know how Im supposed to put it in. Thank you. I dont have the owners manual. Can anyone let me know.

A: Hey Nate, 1). You need to know which radio you have (there are two options depending on production date). The Concert radio has the volume knob right in the middle of the radio. The Concert II has a volume knob on the left and tuning knob on the right. 2). Turn on the ignition and the radio, it should say "SAFE". 3). If you have the Concert radio, press and hold the FM2 and RDS buttons simultaneously until the radio display changes from "SAFE" to "1000". If you have the Concert radio, press and hold the SCAN and RDS buttons simultaneously until the radio display changes from "SAFE" to "1000". 4). Now you use the preset station buttons to enter your radio code. The preset one button will change the first digit, preset two will change the second digit, etc. 5). Once the desired radio code is displayed on the screen, press and hold the two buttons you used in step three. After you finish these steps one of two things will happen. Either the radio will start playing and be unlocked (hopefully), or the radio will once again say "SAFE". If it stays locked you had the wrong code or entered it incorrectly. Be careful, entering the wrong code twice will lock the radio up. I hope this helps, and thank you for serving our country. P.S.- My brother just got back from Iraq.

Q: What's the max boost (psi) I should run on a 2001 Audi TT 1.8 turbo with stock engine internals?
Im trying to get the most speed out of my car but don't want to risk detonating the engine. I have an APEX-i boost controller and i usually run around 12 psi. How much boost is safe for like a short amount of time, i.e. a 1/4 race etc. And how much boost can i run for normal daily driving?

A: Read on! Stated 9.6psi was the max. (don't max out till you read this site) http://www.autoracing1.com/DaveC/AudiTTRoadster.htm Best of Luck

Q: How many miles is a 2001 audi TT 1.8T good for?
I am thinking of buying one with 93k. The car is in excellent condition. How many years if things are maintained can i expect to run it? thank you, -Charlie

A: You say it is maintained well so I will take your word...you may have to replace the starter, alternator and oxygen sensors in around 20-30k miles but other than those inexpensive fixes...you should be able to go to 225-250k no problem.

Q: 2001 audi tt stereo with gps and bluetooth?
Any suggestions for 2001 audi that comes witht gps and bleutooth but still able to close the tt lid. suggestions is greatly appriciated. thanks

A: I'm not sure I understand what you're asking here...

Q: How can I make my 2001 Audi TT 225 faster without spending an arm and a leg?

A: For any turbo, reducing back pressure, increasing/cooling intake, and increasing boost are the primary ways of increasing power. The best value for dollar modification is reprogamming the engine control unit, or "chipping" the car. GIAC is the best Audi chip manufacturer/modifier. I believe these are the only chips that don't affect engine diagnostics (you won't have to change out the chip when taking your car in for service). The gain is 40 hp/55 ft-lb, and it's $495 - http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=5&PEI=2&PP=tt_18t_chips.cfm&PPT=Chips&IL=GIACChips. AWE is regarded as one of the top Audi tuners, and their site has a lot of good information - check it out to see what is available for your car (and prices).

Q: Does anyone know why I am hearing creaking from the front end of my 2001 Audi TT when going over bumps?
The noise sounds like it is coming from the wheel area, and it happens consistently when going over speed bumps and raised driveways. The car is the quattro if it makes a difference...

A: All audis since the late 90's have a complex arrangement of arms and balljoints in the steering and front suspension. I had a similar problem with noises and my Audi dealer advised me that I would have to replace most of the control arms as they were not servicable. There was no play on them, the balljoints were just dry. I spoke to one of the Audi mechanics who advised me to go to a private mechanic and ask him to insert grease nipples in each joint and grease them up. He also told me that they grease them up on services if a customer has done this modification. I extended the life of those joints many times over for a fraction of the cost of one control arm, let alone all of them.

Q: PLease contact me if you hhave problems with your 2001 audi TT.?
The timming belt in my audi TT went last night. I have 110000 miles on my car. If you are in the same situation , please respond to this email. Thanks Especialy if you live in dc metro area. We need to do something.

A: Well unless your going to sell the car, youll need to replace the timing belt...If you have a warranty, it might save you some money, but otherwise, when all the labor, parts, etc. are finished you will be looking at around $4,900-$5,000 to repair it... Since your car still has alot of life left in it (110,000 miles is not that much), you should probably fix it (assuming that there are not other major problems with it) My e-mail is scottyshades@yahoo.com if you have more questions

Q: Will someone out there send me the repair manual to a 2001 Audi TT?
Need to do some repairs.

A: What does chicken pot chicken pot chicken pot pie mean??

Q: Any Trick to getting the serpentine belt on and off of a 2001 Audi TT?
I've got an Audi tt180 that needs new brake pads and a serpentine belt. i have the service manual and i know how to do it from reading it. however, it does not specify what is the best way to get to the belt. i took all the heat/sound shields off and i can see the first pulley (attached to the alternator) but i can't see the rest. it looks like if i jack the car up and take the skid plate off i can get to the rest of the pulleys to tak the belt off and put it back on. does anyone know of the best way to get it off? any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Andy

A: it's pretty easy, but you need to get under the car. start with the black cover in engine compartment on the right side. use a 17mm open end wrench to move the belt adjuster and loosen the tension on the belt. there is a small hole on the tensioner to stick something in there and hold the tensioner. now remove the skid plate from under the vehicle by removing the torx screws(t25) and 4 plastic screws on the wheel liners in front of tires( 2 on each side). now you should be able see the rest of the pulleys with no problem. if you want more room you can remove the black plastic shield on the right side under the car (2 10mm head nuts holding it to frame rail). before removing the belt take note on how it comes around the power steering pump and a/c compressor. good luck. * do NOT remove the front bumper! it won't help.

Q: i got a 2001 audi tt 225 and i am looking to do turbo upgrade. What all will i have to change if APR Stage III
like any extra parts like exhaust or anything?????

A: Upgrade to your fuel system, a professional tune on a dyno and larger exhaust. The latter isn't absolutly necessary, but it will be helpful. Along with a larger intercooler and possibly an aftermarket MAF

Q: I want to buy an 2001 Audi TT, But are they reliable?
Ok now i also want a TT. I wanted a A4 and was satisfied by the answers but I want to know about the TT. I know they are pricey to fix. I am ok with that. But are they reliable? do they last long? is the engine constantly breaking? Audi TT owners, I especially need you answer!!!

A: Hi, my dad has had a 3.2quattro for about a year now. It's 2 years old he bought it second hand, so far other than it's normal service it hasn't needed to go to the garage. He love's it (having a second childhood I think) and so do I, I pinch the keys every chance I get, I love driving it. If it had more room in the back I would buy one myself.
